Take Me Out to the Ballgame!

Some 350 Lake Ridge New Tech High School students and staff recently enjoyed a nice and sunny day at the Gary Steelyard, home of the Gary South Shore RailCats baseball team. They watched the RailCats take on the Kansas City Monarchs.

According to RailCats Marketing Consultant Renee Connelly, the festivities were a part of the team’s annual education day, when schools from northwest Indiana are invited to the ballpark.

“We have been doing this for 20 years and the students love it,” said Connelly. “For some of them, it is their first time coming to the ballpark. It is a nice outing for them, especially since Covid.”

Lake Ridge Assistant Superintendent Cynthia Trevino was one of three people who threw out the ceremonial first pitch before the game.

“This was not my first time throwing out a first pitch, but the last time I had more practice—this time I did not have any. I’m just happy the ball made it to the plate,” she said with a laugh.

Students were treated to a free lunch of a classic ballpark hot dog and chips, along with a bottle of water.

Lake Ridge would like to thank game sponsors Alliance Steel and Howard and Joseph Struble of STIFEL Investment Services for their generous ticket donations.

Best news of all, the RailCats won in a slugfest, 8-6!
